In general, we purchase major military equipment/capability for use by the Defence Force that has a project whole-of-life value over NZ$25 million.
One of the Ministry of Defence’s primary responsibilities is to plan for, advise on, and purchase fit-for-purpose major defence capabilities, including equipment, systems and infrastructure that enable the Defence Force to perform their operations and meet Government expectations.
The Ministry is actively delivering approximately $6 billion of major Defence capability. Doing this effectively requires reliable policies, practices, and governance.
Our major projects begin with a requirement developed together with the New Zealand Defence Force.
After that, we are responsible for the total life cycle of the procurement process.
