Solomon Islands

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) are deployed to Solomon Islands as part of the regionally-led Solomon Islands International Assistance Force (SIAF).

Operation Solomon Islands Assistance

Personnel: Four NZDF personnel are currently deployed (as at 12 April 2024) 

The NZDF are deployed to Solomon Islands as part of the regionally-led SIAF. 

The SIAF deployed to Honiara from late November 2021 to support the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in restoring peace and stability following a period of civil unrest. The SIAF has since continued to support the RSIPF to maintain peace and stability including through community engagement and reassurance.

The SIAF comprises personnel from Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand.

In September 2023 the mandate for this deployment was extended until 30 June 2024, at which point the deployment is expected to conclude.
