This publication provides documents on Cabinet's December 2017 approval to deploy a senior New Zealand Defence Force officer to an intelligence leadership role in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) for one year from March 2018. It comprises:

  • the Cabinet minute of decision: United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali: Proposed Deployment [CBC-18-MIN-0064]
  • the Cabinet paper proposing the deployment: United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali: Proposed Deployment [CBC-18-SUB-0064].

Certain information has been withheld from the documents, in accordance with the following provisions of the Official Information Act 1982, where the making available of the information would be likely to:

  • prejudice the security or defence of New Zealand or the international relations of the Government of New Zealand (section 6(a))
  • prejudice the entrusting of information to the Government of New Zealand on a basis of confidence by the Government of any other country or any agency of such a Government (section 6(b)(i)), or any international organisation (section 6(b)(ii))
  • endanger the safety of any person (section 6(d)).
